DEAN'S DECREE NO. 10/2023 - CONDITIONS AND COURSE OF ADMISSION TO DOCTORAL STUDIES IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE AT THE MUSIC AND DANCE FACULTY OF THE ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS IN PRAGUE

Article 1 Introductory Provisions

In accordance with Articles 18 and 19 of the Statutes of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, the Dean of the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (hereinafter referred to as HAMU) hereby announces the following rules for the admission procedure and conditions for admission to full-time doctoral study programmes in English in the academic year 2023/2024.

The study in English language is charged according to the valid decree of the Dean.

Study Programme Composition

Article 3 Admission Procedure

  • Date of the entrance examination: 15 June 2023
  • Deadline for applications: 31 May 2023
  • Administrative fee: 883,- CZK, CZK (eight hundred and eighty-three Czech crowns), to be paid by credit card or by bank transfer to HAMU bank account No. 19-5373180297/0100, v. s. 64911, spec. s. = application code. Each applicant is obliged to pay the fee for the actions connected with the admission procedure at any time from the moment of submitting the application for studies, but no later than 31 May 2023.
  • Applicants will not be refunded the fee paid for the admission procedure (see AMU Statutes, Article 20, paragraph 2).
  • Applicants shall submit their applications only electronically in the application form: https://prihlaska.amu.cz/apps/kos/prihlaska/wpr_webapp_pg.main?p_session_id=&p_view=&p_action=changeLang&p_lang=AN  In the event of failure to properly complete the application in the system or submission by other means, the application will be considered invalid and the admission procedure will be terminated.

  • The web application of the AMU study system "Application" is open from 1 May to 31 May 2023.

Article 4 Admission Procedure Rules and Conditions for Admission to Study

  • Each department shall set specific dates on which the admission procedure will take place. Invitations with further information will be sent to applicants by the relevant departmental officers to the e-mail address given in the applicant's application form at least 10 working days before the admission examination.
  • The candidate is obliged to confirm receipt of the invitation electronically.
  • In case the department requires additional materials for the 1st round, e.g. video recordings, scores, recordings, electronic records, links to internet storage, or CD/DVD media, the candidate is obliged to send these materials directly to the relevant department, for exact instructions see the conditions of the entrance examination for individual study programmes/specialisations https://www.hamu.cz/en/studies/admission-procedures/

Failure to deliver the required materials by the deadline coinciding with the application deadline will be considered as failure to meet the conditions of the first round admission procedure and a decision will be made not to admit the student.

  • Successful completion of the entrance examination in English and fulfilment of the conditions of the admission procedure is a condition for admission to the PhD programme or its profile.

Article 5 Alternative Dates of the Entrance Examination

There are no alternative dates for the admissions procedure. If a candidate is unable to appear for the entrance examination on the regular date for health reasons and submits a medical certificate within 3 days of the date of the entrance examination, the Dean shall consider the excuse and may, in exceptional and justified cases, set an alternative date for the entrance examination on the proposal of the relevant department and in agreement with the relevant admissions board.

Article 6 Publication of the Results of the Admission Procedure

Applicants will be notified in writing of the result of the admissions examination within 30 days of the decision of the admissions board.

Article 7 Specific Conditions for the Admission of Foreigners to Study Programmes implemented in English Language

The admission procedure is conducted in English. Applicants are required to prove their knowledge of English at level B2 (except for applicants whose native language is English) and of another foreign language (German, French, Italian or Spanish) at level B1 as a condition for admission to studies in English.

Without fulfilling this condition, the applicant cannot be granted admission to the course.

Article 8 Final Provisions

This Decree was discussed and approved by the Academic Senate of HAMU on 27 April 2023

The annex to this Decree forms an integral part thereof.

The Decree shall enter into force on the date of its publication on the HAMU website and official notice board.

Required attachments to the application for doctoral study programmes, academic year 2023/2024

Candidates must complete the electronic application form and submit it to the Faculty's study system (KOS). Mandatory attachments must be sent in paper form by post or submitted via the AMU mailroom.

Required attachments for applicants:

  1. A project of doctoral studies including a clear plan of creative and artistic research activities,
  2. An inventory of a representative recital with a total duration of 80 to 90 minutes, at least one of which must correspond to the thematic focus of the intended doctoral thesis (in the entrance examination, as chosen by the admissions committee, the applicant will perform part of the submitted repertoire)
  3. A professional curriculum vitae, signed in their own hand with a portrait photograph

(among other things, an overview of previous professional activities, a list of published works or artistic performances, evidence of public acclaim of the work),

  1. Proof of having passed an examination in two foreign languages issued by an appropriate certified institution, not older than 5 years - English at level B2, another foreign language (German, French, Italian and Spanish) at level B1.

The required proof is either:

(a) An official international examination certificate from an accredited institution (assessed by the AMU Language Training Centre); or

b) A certificate of completion of another master's or doctoral programme accredited in English in the Czech Republic or abroad; or

c) A confirmation of passing a fee-based language examination at the Language Training Centre.

If the applicant cannot prove that he/she has successfully passed a foreign language exam in the past 5 years (see above for details), he/she is obliged to take this exam, e.g. to take it, after consultation with the HAMU Study Department, at the AMU Language Training Centre.

5. An officially certified copy of the Master's diploma and the supplement to the diploma or a certificate issued by the study department stating the final year of study at the university and the date of the Master's HAL in the current academic year (in the box on the application form). After completing the Master's degree and obtaining the Master's diploma, it must be delivered to the HAMU Study Department without delay. Without fulfilling this condition, the applicant cannot be issued a decision on admission to the studies.

Additional mandatory attachments to the application if the applicant has completed previous education at a foreign university in a master's programme:

The applicant must attach one of the following documents to the application:

(a) Proof of general recognition of the equivalence or validity of the foreign proof of attainment of a master's degree in the Czech Republic (so-called nostrification); or

b) A foreign document of a foreign master's degree if it is automatically equivalent in the Czech Republic according to its international obligations without further official procedure (master's degree and supplement to the diploma from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia); or

c) A document of foreign higher education which has been obtained by completing studies in a master's higher education programme at a foreign higher education institution operating under the legislation of a foreign state and which entitles its holder to access to a doctoral study programme in that foreign state, which the AMU shall assess itself. Documents provided are not returned. All documents are required to be translated into Czech.
