In my doctoral studies, I am focusing on the personality and work of composer Vojtěch Saudek (1951-2003), about whom nothing comprehensive has yet been written (except for my master's thesis, which I defended in 2025 and which I am now freely building on). In collaboration with musicologist and director of the Bohuslav Martinů Institute Aleš Březina, I am compiling a complete catalog of works, which will also serve as a framework or outline for the biographical part of my dissertation. Against the backdrop of the description and analysis of individual compositions, the contexts in which these compositions were written, but also the author's family background and his relationship to literature, I am trying to discover the key to understanding his compositional approaches and his (not only) musical thinking.
On this basis, I will then evaluate why Saudek's music is so close to my heart, which of the found or presumed compositional principles/approaches I share with him, and which I consider unique and therefore worthy of attention and research.
