STUDY PROGRAMMES

Composition (undergraduate and graduate program)

The program focuses on the artistic development of composers and their preparation for professional work in the field of contemporary music in the broad context of the contemporary art scene. In addition to the main field of composition, the study includes a wide range of compositional disciplines that open up opportunities for students to pursue a variety of creative fields. The program’s instruction includes theoretical and music-historical subjects as well as the basics of artistic research, working with music technology, improvisation and performance. Students also acquire competencies in interdisciplinary collaboration, for example in the context of film, dance, theatre and intermedia. An essential part of the study is the above-standard amount of public performances of new musical works - ranging from chamber and intermedia compositions to orchestral pieces. As a result, students develop not only practical skills, but also the communication practice necessary for employment in international professional discourse.

Composition (PhD Program)

Doctoral studies are characterized by a balance between the development of compositional skills and the realization of artistic research. During their studies, doctoral students carry out an artistic research project on an international level and actively engage in professional discourse. Their chamber, orchestral and intermedia compositions are regularly performed in concerts. Doctoral students are engaged in academic writing and participate in international conferences.
