The program provides a complete education in the fundamental aspects of jazz music that can be studied at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The curriculum is made up of group courses focusing on jazz history, jazz theory and improvisation, aural analysis and transcription, the rhythmic aspects of various world music traditions, or specifically focused ensemble playing.
The curriculum is also supplemented with collective subjects focused on jazz history, jazz theory and improvisation, listening analysis and transcription, the rhythmic side of various world musical traditions and ensemble play. Students also receive instruction in the classic departments as part of their compulsories and electives, which also develops their musical horizons. Regular instruction is supplemented by open workshops by primarily foreign artists.
