EDUCATING FUTURE VIRTUOSOS

The department teaches three fields – piano, organ and harpsichord. The birth and past decades of work of the department are associated with major figures from these fields. Among the pianists these include professors Ilona Štěpánová – Kurzová, František Maxián, Josef Páleníček, František Rauch, Pavel Štěpán, Valentina Kameníková, Zdeněk Jílek, Jan Panenka, Josef Hála and many more; among the organists particularly Bedřich Antonín Wiedermann, Jiří Reinberger and Milan Šlechta, and for the harpsichord Zuzana Růžičková. They produced many excellent graduates who made their way onto domestic and foreign concert stages and received awards in international competitions.

"LIFE IS LIKE A PIANO. WHITE KEYS ARE HAPPY MOMENTS AND THE BLACK ONES ARE SAD MOMENTS. BOTH KEYS ARE PLAYED TOGETHER TO GIVE US THE SWEET MUSIC CALLED LIFE." - ANONYM
