CALL FOR PAPERS

The conference is dedicated to the current situation of music theory and the directions, topics, and problems of this discipline. The conference aims to compare different views on the field of music theory, on what can be its subject, and what it means to be a music theorist in the 21st century.

The topics include but are not limited to: 

·    methods of analyzing contemporary music
·    theoretical grasping of new compositional and interpretative techniques, including terminology
·    development of the score and theory’s response to it
·    current research in this field


Papers that are not directly related to the topic but are relevant to the broader focus of the conference may also be submitted, addressing for example:
·    approaches to music theory and its teaching at academies
·    position of music theory within music research
The conference includes the section of the student papers for students of bachelor, master and doctoral degree. 

The length of each presentation is 20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion The working language of the conference is English. The conference will be held in-person. 


If you are interested in active participation in the conference, send the title of the paper, an abstract (max. 2000 characters), and a brief CV in English by 12 February to the e-mail address  lucia.reiprichmaloveska@hamu.cz 

We will inform you about the acceptance of the paper by the February 20, 2026. 

 

This conference is organized at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague as part of the project "Contemporary Music Theory - Approaches, Challenges, Limits" with the support of the Institutional Endowment for the Long Term Conceptual Development of Research Institutes, as provided by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic in the year 2026.
