The MMMM saxophone quartet consists of the best Czech and Slovak performers (Marcel Bárta, Michal Wróblewski, Martin Debřička, Michaela Turcerová), who have extensive experience in performing both jazz music and other genres (free improvisation, graphic scores, contemporary music).
In April of this year, the quartet completed a two-day workshop at HAMU in Prague, attended by composition students from the Department of Composition. The result of the experience gained and mutual interaction was the creation of five new compositions, which will be premiered at the concert. The music will be stylistically and genre-wise unclassifiable, open to new ideas and interpretative possibilities. It is music whose strong unifying element is improvisation as the supreme phenomenon of contemporary experimental music.
You will hear compositions by Štěpán Janoušek, Dagmar Lukajová, Marek Karpilovský, Tobiáš Horváth, and John Franek.
The project was made possible by a grant from the HAMU Faculty Support for Student and Pedagogical Projects.
