WORKSHOP | KRISTIAN ENKERUD LIEN

2. December 2025 17:00 -

2. December 2025 18:30

The Composition Department of HAMU is organizing a workshop with Kristian Enkerud Lien on Tuesday, December 2, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in classroom 2020.

Norwegian composer, guitarist, and improviser Kristian Enkerud Lien will present the principles of microtonality and just intonation and explain how alternative tuning systems can pragmatically expand the musical expression of improvising musicians and composers. The lecture combines theoretical and historical insight with a practical demonstration of how these concepts are applied in performance and composition. Lien's work draws inspiration from Eivind Groven, Ben Johnston, and Harry Partch, combining theoretical precision with creative exploration. Lien leads the experimental ensemble KRISE, which explores sound beyond the framework of tempered tuning on the recordings Svartsymra and Apt Opt Kroma, blending influences from free improvisation, indie rock, and contemporary artificial music.

The workshop is part of the Improvisation and Performance course and is open to all interested HAMU students.
