DEAN'S DECREE NO. 12/2025, CONDITIONS AND COURSE OF ADMISSION TO DOCTORAL STUDIES IN THE COMBINED FORM OF STUDY IN ENGLISH AT HAMU

Article 1 Introductory Provisions

In accordance with Articles 18 and 19 of the Statute of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, the Dean of the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) hereby announces the following rules for the admission procedure and the conditions for admission to study in combined doctoral study programmes in the English language in the academic year 2025/2026.

 

Article 2 List of open doctoral study programmes at HAMU for the academic year 2025/2026 in English

Study in English is subject to a fee in accordance with the current Dean's Decree.

Study programme Art of Dance and Nonverbal Theatre

Specialisations: Dance Pedagogy, Choreology, Choreography, Nonverbal Theatre.

 

Article 3 Admission procedure

  • Admission examination date: 1 - 12 September 2025
  • Deadline for applications: 15 August 2025
  • Administrative fee: CZK 967,- (nine hundred and sixty-seven Czech crowns), to be paid by credit card or bank transfer to HAMU bank account No. 19-5373180297/0100, v. s. 64911, spec. s. = application code. Each applicant is obliged to pay the fee for the actions related to the admission procedure at any time from the moment of submitting the application for studies, but no later than 15 August 2025. If the applicant fails to pay the fee by the specified deadline and in the specified form, the admission procedure will be terminated.
  • Applicants will not be refunded the fee paid for the admission procedure (see AMU Statutes, Article 20, paragraph 2).
  • Candidates shall submit a truthfully and completely filled in application form only electronically in the AMU application form (at https://prihlaska.amu.cz/apps/kos/prihlaska/wpr_webapp_pg.main?p_view=&p_action=changeLang&p_lang=AN) and pay the application fee,
  • in case of failure to properly complete the application form in the system or submission by other means, the application will be considered invalid and the admission procedure will be terminated.

  • The deadline for submitting the application, including mandatory and optional attachments, is 15 August 2025.
  • The AMU study system web app "Application" is open from 15 July to 15 August 2025.

Article 4 Admission Procedure Rules and Conditions for Admission to Study

  • Each departmental council sets specific dates on which the admission procedure will take place. Invitations with further information will be sent to applicants by the clerks of the respective Boards to the e-mail address indicated in the applicant's application form at least 10 working days before the admission examination.
  • The candidate is obliged to confirm receipt of the invitation electronically.
  • The candidate is obliged to register before the entrance examination at the HAMU Study Department according to the instructions in the invitation
  • In case the subject board requires additional materials for the admission procedure, e.g. video recordings, scores, recordings, electronic records, links to internet storage, event. The applicant is obliged to send these materials directly to the relevant secretariat of the departmental board, for exact instructions see the conditions of admission to individual study programmes/professions https://www.hamu.cz/en/studies/admission-procedures/phd-studies/
  • Failure to deliver the required materials by the deadline coinciding with the deadline for submission of applications, i.e. 15 August 2025, will be considered as a failure to meet the conditions of the admission procedure and a decision will be made not to admit the applicant to study.
  • Admission to the doctoral study programme is conditional on the proper completion of studies in the master's degree programme, the acquisition of an academic degree, successful completion of the entrance examination in English and fulfilment of all the conditions of the admission procedure.
  • All the conditions for meeting the set criteria and determining the minimum and maximum examination scores for admission to individual programmes or profiles are published, see https://www.hamu.cz/en/studies/admission-procedures/
  • The final fulfilment of the scores and applicants' ranking is determined by the Admissions Committee by a majority vote of the members present, according to the AMU Study and Examination Regulations. In the event of a tie, the vote of the chairperson of the Admissions Committee is decisive.

 

Article 5 Alternative dates for admission examinations

There is no alternative date for admission. If a candidate is unable to appear for the entrance examination on the regular date for health reasons and submits a medical certificate within 3 days of the date of the entrance examination, the Dean shall consider the excuse and may, in exceptional and justified cases, set an alternative date for the entrance examination on the proposal of the relevant department and in agreement with the relevant admissions board.
 

Article 6 Specific Conditions for the Admission of Foreigners to Study Programmes in English

The admission procedure is conducted in English. Applicants must prove their knowledge of the English language according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) as a condition of admission to studies in English (except for applicants whose first language is English). Required English language proficiency according to the CEFR at level B2. Applicants must demonstrate this knowledge during the admission procedure.

The required proof is either:
a) an official examination certificate from an accredited institution (assessed by the AMU Language Training Centre); or
b) a certificate of completion of another Master's degree programme accredited in English in the Czech Republic or abroad.

Without fulfilling this condition, the applicant cannot be issued a decision on admission to study.

 

Article 7 Publication of the results of the admission procedure

Within 30 days of the verification of the fulfilment of the conditions, the Dean issues a decision. After receiving the decision on admission or non-admission to study, the applicant has the right to inspect his/her file, always by prior arrangement with the HAMU Study Department on a specific date for inspection. The applicant is obliged to present proof of identity before the inspection of the file, and the study department will draw up a report on the inspection process.

 

Article 8 Final Provisions

  • This Decree was discussed and approved by the Academic Senate of HAMU on 19 June 2025.
  • The annex is an integral part of the decree.
  • The Decree shall enter into force upon signature by the Dean and shall become effective on the date of publication on the HAMU website and official notice board.

Annex No. 1 to Dean's Decree No. 12/2025

 

Mandatory attachments to the application for doctoral study programmes, academic year 2025/2026

The candidate for study shall complete the electronic application form and send it to the Faculty's study system (KOS). The mandatory attachments shall be sent in paper form by post or submitted via the AMU administration office.

 

Required attachments for applicants:

  1. a project of doctoral studies including a clear plan of creative and artistic research activities,
  2. a professional CV signed in manuscript with a portrait photograph
    (among other things, an overview of previous professional activities, a list of published works or artistic performances, evidence of public acclaim of the work),
  3. a document issued by an appropriate certified institution on passing an examination in two foreign languages, not older than 5 years - in English at the B2 level - the applicant shall provide according to Article 6 of the Decree,
    The mandatory document is either:
    a) an official international examination certificate from an accredited institution (assessed by the AMU Language Training Centre); or
    b) a certificate of completion of another Master's or Doctoral degree programme accredited in English in the Czech Republic or abroad or
  4. a certified copy of the Master's diploma and the supplement to the diploma is delivered to the study department or a certificate issued by the study department about the final year of study at the university and the date of the Master's degree in the current academic year (in the box on the application form) is uploaded to the application form. After graduating from the Master's programme and obtaining the Master's diploma and the supplement to the diploma, certified copies of the diplomas must be delivered to the HAMU Study Department without delay. Without fulfilling this condition, the applicant cannot be issued a decision on admission to studies.

 

Additional mandatory attachments to the application form in case the applicant has completed previous education at a foreign university in a master's programme:

The applicant must attach one of the following documents to the application:

a) proof of general recognition of the equivalence or validity of the foreign proof of attainment of a master's degree in the Czech Republic (so-called nostrification); or
b) a foreign document of a foreign master's degree if it is automatically equivalent in the Czech Republic according to its international obligations without further official procedure (master's degree and supplement to the diploma from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia); or
c) a document of foreign higher education which was obtained by completing studies in a master's higher education programme at a foreign higher education institution operating under the laws of a foreign state and which entitles its holder to access to study in a doctoral programme in the foreign state, which the AMU itself will assess. Documents provided are not returned. All documents are required in English or translated into Czech language.
