DEAN’S DECREE NO. 20/2025, CONDITIONS AND COURSE OF ADMISSION TO THE DOCTORAL STUDIES IN THE COMBINED FORM OF STUDY IN ENGLISH AT HAMU

 

Article 1 Introductory Provisions

In accordance with Articles 18 and 19 of the Statutes of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, the Dean of the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) announces the following rules for the admission procedure and the conditions for admission to study in combined Doctoral study programmes in English in the academic year 2026/2027.

 

Article 2 List of open HAMU Doctoral study programmes for the academic year 2026/2027 in the English language


Study in the English language is subject to a fee in accordance with the current Dean’s Decree.

Art of Dance and Nonverbal Theatre
Specialisations: Dance Pedagogy, Choreology, Choreography, Nonverbal Theatre

 

Article 3 Admission procedure

  • Dates of admission examinations: 8.–19. June 2026
  • Application deadline: 15. April 2026
  • Administrative fee: 1980, - Kč (one thousand nine hundred eighty Czech crowns) as prescribed in the AMU Statutes, Article 20, paragraph 2; the fee should be paid by credit card or by bank transfer to HAMU bank account No. 19-5373180297/0100, v. s. 64911, spec. s. = the code of the application. Each applicant is obliged to pay the fee for the acts connected with the admission procedure at any time from the moment of submitting the application for studies, but no later than 15. 4. 2026. 2025. If the applicant fails to pay the fee by the specified deadline and in the specified form, the admission procedure will be terminated.
  • Applicants will not be refunded the fee paid for the admission procedure (see AMU Statutes, Article 20, paragraph 2).
  • Candidates must submit a truthful and complete application form only electronically via the online application https://prihlaska.amu.cz/apps/kos/prihlaska/wpr_webapp_pg.main?p_view=&p_action=changeLang&p_lang=AN) and pays the fee connected to the application procedure. In the event of failure to properly complete the application in the system or submission by other means, the application will be considered invalid and the admission procedure will be terminated.

  • The deadline for submission of the application form including attachments is 15. April 2026.
  • The online application system of AMU is open from 15 March to 15 April 2026.

Article 4 Admission Procedure Rules and Conditions for Admission to Study

  • Each department shall set specific dates on which the admission procedure will take place. Invitations with further information will be sent to applicants by the departmental administrators via e-mail to the address indicated in the application form no later than 10 working days before the entrance examination.
  • The candidate is obliged to confirm receipt of the invitation electronically.
  • Before the entrance examination, the candidate is obliged to register at the HAMU Study Department according to the instructions in the invitation.
  • In case the department requires additional materials for the 1st round, e.g. video recordings, scores, audio recordings, digital recordings, links to online storage, or CD/DVD media, the candidate is obliged to send these materials directly to the relevant department, for exact instructions see the conditions of the entrance examinations for each study programmes/specialisations https://www.hamu.cz/en/studies/admission-procedures/phd-studies/
    Failure to deliver the required materials by the deadline coinciding with the application deadline (15. April 2026) will be considered as failure to meet the conditions of the first round of the admission procedure and a decision will be made not to admit the student.
  • Admission to the Doctoral programme is conditional upon the proper completion of the Master’s degree programme, the award of an academic degree, successful completion of the entrance examination in English and fulfilment of all the conditions of the admission procedure.
  • All the conditions for meeting the specified criteria and for determining the minimum and maximum examination scores for admission to each programme or specialisation are published, see https://www.hamu.cz/en/studies/admission-procedures/
  • The final point evaluation and ranking of applicants shall be determined by the Admissions Committee by a majority vote of the members present, in accordance with the AMU Study and Examination Regulations. In the event of a tie, the Chair of the Admissions Committee shall have the casting vote.


Article 5 Alternative dates of the entrance examination

  • No alternative admission date has been set. If a candidate is unable to appear for the entrance examination on the regular date for health reasons and submits a medical certificate within 3 days of the date of the entrance examination, the Dean will consider the reason and, in exceptional and justified cases, may set an alternative date for the entrance examination on the proposal of the relevant department and in agreement with the relevant admissions committee.


Article 6 Specific Conditions for Admission of Foreigners to Study Programmes implemented inEnglish language

The admission procedure is conducted in English. Applicants are required to demonstrate proficiency in English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) as a condition of admission to study in English (the exception is applicants whose native language is English). The required level of English language proficiency according to the CEFR is B2. Applicants must provide evidence of this knowledge by the closing date for applications on 15. 4. 2026.

The required proof is either:
a) an official international examination certificate from an accredited institution (assessed by the AMU Language Training Centre); or
b) a certificate of completion of another Bachelor’s degree programme accredited in English in the Czech Republic or abroad.

Without fulfilling this condition, the applicant cannot be issued a decision on admission to study.


Article 7 Publication of the results of the admission procedure

  • Within thirty days of verifying that the conditions have been met, the dean will issue a decision. After receiving the decision on admission or non-admission to study or the resolution, the applicant has the right to inspect the file, always by prior arrangement with the HAMU Study Department. Before consulting the file, the applicant is obliged to present proof of identity, and the study department will draw up a report on the process of consulting the file.

 

Article 8 Final Provisions

  • This decree was discussed and approved by the Academic Senate of HAMU on11. 2025.

  • An integral part of the decree is its annex.

  • The Decree shall become valid upon signature of the Dean and shall become effective on the date of publication on the HAMU website and official board.

Annex No. 1 to the Dean’s Decree No. 17/2025


Mandatory attachments to the application for doctoral study programmes, academic year 2026/2027

Candidates for the study must fill in the electronic application form completely and send it to the Faculty’s study system (KOS) and send the required attachments in paper form by post or personally deliver them to the AMU Registry Office.

 

Required attachments for applicants:

  1. A project of doctoral studies including a clear intention of creative and artistic research activities,
  2. A professional CV signed in their own hand with a portrait photograph (among other things, an overview of previous professional activities, a list of published works or artistic performances, evidence of public acclaim of the work),
  3. Proof issued by an appropriate certified institution of having passed an examination in two foreign languages, not older than 5 years - in English at level B2 - the applicant shall provide evidence in accordance with Article 7 of the Decree, in another foreign language (German, French, Italian and Spanish) at level B1.
    The required document is either:
    a) An official international certificate of examination from an accredited institution (assessed by the AMU Language Training Centre) or
    b) A confirmation of completion of another Master’s or Doctoral study programme accredited in English in the Czech Republic or abroad or
    c) A confirmation of passing a fee-based language examination at the Language Training Centre.
    If the applicant cannot prove that he/she has successfully passed a foreign language exam in the past 5 years (see above for details), he/she is obliged to take this exam and latest by the 30. June 2026 show proof of this. One of the options is to take this exam in person after discussion with the HAMU Study Department at the AMU Language Training Centre. Without fulfilling this condition, the applicant cannot be issued a decision on admission to studies.
  4. A certified copy of the Master’s diploma and the supplement to the diploma is delivered to the Study Department or

A certificate issued by the study department about the final year of study at the university and the date of the Master’s degree in the current academic year (in the box on the application form) is uploaded to the application form. After graduating from the Master’s programme and obtaining the Master’s diploma and the supplement to the diploma, certified copies of the diplomas must be delivered to the HAMU Study Department without delay. Without fulfilling this condition, the applicant cannot be issued a decision on admission to studies.

 

Additional mandatory attachments to the application form in case the applicant has completed previous education at a foreign university in a Master’s programme:

The applicant is obliged to submit one of the following:
a) A document of general recognition of the equivalence or validity of a foreign document of attainment of a Master’s degree in the Czech Republic (so-called nostrification) or
b) A foreign document of a foreign Master’s degree, if it is automatically equivalent in the Czech Republic according to its international obligations without further official procedure (Master’s¨degree and supplement to the diploma from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia) or
c) A document of a foreign higher education, which was obtained by completing studies in a Master’s higher education programme at a foreign higher education institution operating under the legislation of a foreign state and which entitles its holder to access to a Doctoral study programme in that foreign state, which AMU shall assess itself. For information on how to prove that university graduates have fulfilled the conditions for attaining a previous degree, see https://www.amu.cz/en/study/recognition-of-foreign-education/. This task is subject to a fee. Without fulfilling this condition, the applicant cannot be issued a decision on admission to studies.

Submitted documents are not returned. All documents must be officially translated into Czech.
