The department is responsible for scientific research and development projects. It provides advice, as well as management, in relation to applications for internal, external and international funding.
The Institute of Music Theory (ÚTH) is a research institute of the Faculty of Music and Dance of the Academy of Performing Arts.
The Institute is one of the few institutions in the Czech Republic dealing specifically with dance research.
