Information for applicants in English language study programmes

If you are applying to study in a programme accredited in English, you must present a proof of English language proficiency in order to be admitted. For more details see here.

 


Information for students in English language study programmes

Students in BA / MA programmes

If you wish to improve your German, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish or Czech language skills as part of your studies, you are welcome to sign up for the elective language courses organised by the AMU Language Centre. You can find the list of available courses here.

 

Students in PhD programmes

If you are currently enrolled on a post-graduate programme accredited in English, you must pass two compulsory language exams to demonstrate your language proficiency at the required level (B2 for English, B1 for the other languages - see below).

Both exams test writing, reading and speaking competencies, and have the form of an approx. 30-minute interview with a two-member team of the Language Centre examiners.

 

Exam in English

You must sign up for the exam in the KOS (for the exam codes see KOS) at the start of the semester in which you plan to take the exam, and sign up for the chosen exam date at least 1 month before the exam itself (you can find the list of the exam dates in the KOS).

The following materials must be sent as an attachment to cjp-doktorandi@amu.cz min. 3 weeks before the date of the exam:

  • CV (1-3 pages)
  • a summary of your PhD project (1-2 pages)
  • a scholarly text related to your PhD project (e.g. a text you are planning to use as a secondary source for the theoretical part of your thesis) (50 pages)

The exam has the form of a discussion of the materials mentioned above – you will be asked to introduce yourself and your PhD project, summarize the scholarly text, explain how it relates to your PhD project, analyse the main ideas, critically comment on it, etc.

 

Exam in German / French / Spanish / Italian / Russian
