Ada Gentile took her piano and composition diplomas at S.Cecilia Conservatory
in Rome. In 1975-76 she followed an advanced course held by Goffredo Petrassi
at the Accademia di S.Cecilia. She has won several international composition
competitions (Gaudeamus 1982, I.S.C.M. Budapest 1986, I.S.C.M. Essen 1995).

Her works have been performed in Europe, the U.S.A, Canada, China, Japan,
Australia and South America in prestigious musical centres such as the Centre
Pompidou in Paris, Metropolitan and Carnegie Hall in New York, Teatro Real
in Madrid, Mozarteum in Salzburg, Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, Accademia
Nazionale di S.Cecilia in Rome, F.Liszt Academy in Budapest, Central
Conservatory of Beijing (China), Krakow Music Academy, Sibelius Academy in
Helsinki, Royal Conservatory of Amsterdam, Rund Turm in Copenaghen,
Jerusalem Academy of Music, Sejong Center of Seoul, "La Fenice" theater in
Venice, Parco della Musica in Rome etc. She has been invited to the most
important festivals of contemporary music and has got several commissions from
the Radio Orchestras of Rome, Naples and Milano, from the National Academy of
S.Cecilia, from the French Ministry of Culture, from the 4th Munchener
Biennale etc. Her works (about 100, for soloists, chamber group, orchestra and
theater) have been published mostly by RICORDI, RAITRADE and SCONFINARTE
and recorded by RICORDI, EDT, NICCOLO’, UNMUS (Canada) and TIRRENO (Suisse).

Since 1978 is Art Director of the contemporary music Festival "Nuovi Spazi Musicali;
from 1993 until 1997 she has been in the board of the Venice Biennale, from August 1996
until December 1999, Art Director of the lyric theater V.Basso in Ascoli
Piceno and from 2000 until May 2007 Vice Director of S.Cecilia
Conservatory in Rome. One of her most important works, "CANTATA PER LA
PACE" (for large orchestra, choir and reciter, text by Salvatore Qyasimodo),
commissioned by the Vatican, was premiered with great success in Rome on 30th
December 2000 to close the series "Concerts for the Great Jubilee" and repeated
in Brasilia , St. Petersburg , Seoul, Beijing, Taipei, New York, Rostov, Kiev etc.
In 2008 has written a piece called “Ho scritto una canzone” for the 80th
birthday of her friend Ennio Morricone; the world premiere of this piece has had
place in Parco della Musica of Rome with the “Roma Sinfonietta” conducted by
Alberto Maria Giuri. Since 2013 she is living no more in Rome but in Ascoli
Piceno, a nice town of art in the central Italy. In the last years she has written
many works for chamber group (“Dal nulla”, “Come un sogno”, “Come un
ricordo”, “Serene ombre”, “Perchè”) and an amusing “pocket opera”of 30’ for
soprano and piano titled “The day of an histeric soprano”that has been
premiered in San Francisco, with a great success , by the pianist Anthony Porter
and the soprano Amy Foote in the October 2014 and repeated in Ascoli Piceno,
Sansepolcro, and SanLeo by the pianist Fausto Di Cesare and Susanne
Bungaard, soprano. On 15th November 2015 her piece “D’improvviso un
giorno” has been plaied in L’Habana by the “Orquesta Nacional de Cuba”
conducted by Guido Lopez Gavilan in the opening concert of the “Festival de
l’Habana 2015”at Teatro Nacional, Sala Covarrubias.In May 2016 she has been
invited by the Music Academy of VILNIUS and by the “Royal Irish Academy of
Music” of DUBLIN for a lecture about her musical language in the general view
of the Italian music of today and for the performance of some piece
